The Unicorn is a one-of-a-kind horse that may be found during the linked quest near the pond immediately west of Lost Prospect Mine. It’s a wild horse that needs to be tamed by riding it till it breaks. Lost Prospect Mine is a small abandoned gold mine found between Fallowstone Cave and Black-Briar Lodge.
The Unicorn becomes an owned mount once tamed. If you exchange mounts, it will slowly make its way to the courtyard of the College of Winterhold.
You’ll be prompted to the Arcanaeum at the College of Winterhold after installing the Wild Horses Creation to learn more about claims of a recent Unicorn sighting. You’ll find Soran’s Journal on Urag gro-desk Shub’s once you arrive. It tells the story of a wildlife scholar named Soran Hariksen, who discovered a unicorn in the Rift Valley’s woodlands while conducting study on unicorns. The monster is said to be from the distant past, and it was transported forward in time by the Psijic Order after Hircine sacrificed the last live Unicorn during his Oblivion mission.
After reading the journal, you’ll be taken to a location immediately west of the Lost Prospect Mine entrance. The Unicorn is located right close to a pond. It’s a wild horse, so if you approach it, it’ll flee. It must be tamed, which is a Creation-added mechanic. To claim the Unicorn as your own, you must mount it until it stops bucking. When it bucks, you may be thrown off, and you’ll have to chase it down again once you’ve regained your footing.
According to Soran’s Journal, this Unicorn was brought forward in time by the Psijic Order after the species went extinct during Hircine’s quest in Oblivion. As such, it is supposedly the last Unicorn in existence.
The Unicorn can be equipped with Elven and Steel Horse Armor when the Horse Armor – Elven or Horse Armor – Steel creations are installed.
